From 1st January 2009 Uniworld’s network provider and parent company Gamma Telecom, is the first UK carrier to have a net zero carbon footprint for calls carried across the network. Gamma’s carbon footprint is assessed by an independent company (Greenstone Carbon Management) for the amount of energy used in transporting minutes. Gamma then works with The CarbonNeutral Company to offset this by purchasing carbon credits and investing in projects such as reforestation and hydro schemes. Projects that the carbon credits are being used on include the Sichuan Province Hydro Power Project in China and a Wind Power Project in India. Read more about these projects below. In addition ongoing investment in the use of soft-switching in the network has facilitated a change from a power-hungry hardware infrastructure to a software driven environment which uses less power.
This gives Uniworld a powerful and unique edge in the market place today. |
